Wednesday’s featured women are not women at all; they are little girls. Stam and Pet are professional Muay Thai fighters featured in a 2012 documentary by Todd Kellstein. According to the documentary, Thailand has an underground fighting ring for which 30,000 children fight for money in order to support their families. This is an interesting topic for a few reasons. One, it demonstrates the courage and strength of these two young girls as they fight for their survival and they prove that girls are just as tough and strong and able than boys. Two, it shows how an entire country exploits children to this magnitude — 30,000 kids — for money. It’s a bittersweet experience posting this video — and yet it makes this a documentary worth watching and a discussion worth having.

I am glad girls are considered equal to fight. As someone who abhors violence I don’t think this is a good thing. But when I compare it to that girl being sold for sex it suddenly looks like sunshine and lollipops.
Hi Leah, it’s still exploitative, but these girls show that they can be just as agile and just as strong. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
Yes it is still is exploitative and disgusting to me. I suppose what makes it less worse is knowing that these girls would be more likely to fight off a sexual assault than most. It’s a tiny speck of better, but it resonates a lot with MY life and what I have seen.
I love all the great information you have on here. Thank you for taking your time to share it with the world.
