Thursday is Media and Sexism Day:
I found the following YouTube clip by Anita Sarkeesian that deconstructs a few sexist commercials called “Retro Sexism and Uber Ironic Advertising.”
It is a very educational and enlightening clip that shows you some of the tricks employed by ad execs in getting away with sexist ads, and how we end up perceiving humor in images that we should be helping curtail and inevitably delete from society. Knowledge yields empowerment, which yields freedom. Give it a peek.

I have to say that this girl is totally, spot on. There is so much sexism and such in our culture, even on kids channels, that it’s becoming difficult for my son to watch TV because he’s inundated with it on commercials alone, not to mention the inuendos on the shows.
April, I am with you. I now have my three year old daughter watching DVD’s because it is ridiculous. Not just the sexism, but the consumerism as well. I’m getting tired of hearing “I want that.” There are more commercials than actual content.
