Sexism in the Media

Thursday’s Gender Thoughts: Take a look at this video posted by the Women’s Media Center. It shows how media representatives, specifically male news anchors, talk about women as nagging wives, cleavage possessors, castrating, and so forth. Not only is this offensive, but it is blatant sexism, which diminishes the value of women in politics, news, and businesses.

After viewing this, and hearing the comments made by these experts of the news, which is most offensive to you? How do you think this can be curtailed? What course of action? Are these YouTube Videos enough to create awareness and demand change in the way women are being represented by the media?

One Response to Sexism in the Media

  1. Marina,

As always — great stuff! I really don’t know where to start here but this is such an important video. I had not realized how sexist Chris Matthews was. I take away from this a need for a different response to this from women. We need to view ourselves outside of the way that these people do, we need to turn everything they say is negative into a positive. I’m going to work on a “backwards” post inspired by this video. I think we need to change our strategy to gain power.
